Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji (21 April 1621 – 24 November 1675) was the ninth Guru of the Sikhs. Guru Teg Bahadur Ji’s contribution inspires us to follow the path of humanity and truth, and hence he is remembered even today as the “true protector of humanity”.

Guru Teg Bahadur Ji was born on the Krishna Paksha Panchami of the month of Vaishakh in Vikrami Samvat 1678 (1 April 1621). His father was Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, who is known as the sixth Guru of the Sikhs, and his mother’s name was Mata Nanaki. Guru Teg Bahadur Ji was religious and courageous since childhood. Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji made a unique contribution in his life to protect human values, religion, and truth. Taking inspiration from his sacrifice and life, even today millions of people find inspiration to follow the path of truth and religion.

Guru Teg Bahadur Ji stood up against the religious coercion of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb and sacrificed his life. In 1675, Aurangzeb asked him to accept Islam, but Guru Teg Bahadur Ji clearly said that he can give his head, but cannot give up his religion and principles. This is a symbol of his unshakable religiosity and morality, which establishes him as the true protector of religion.

On 11 November 1675, in Chandni Chowk, Delhi, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was martyred by the hands of the executioner.
